Almost one million bankruptcies were filed in the U.S. from July 1, 2007 - June 30, 2008. Individuals filed about 934,000 cases during that time while businesses filed over 33,000 cases. Of the individual cases filed, over 592,000 were chapter 7 and 340,000 were chapter 13 cases. For the final 3 months of the year period above (April 1 - June 30), over 276,000 cases were filed, which is the highest quarterly filing since late 2006.
